Biography
Laurie Kader lives and works in Montreal and obtained her Masters of Arts Education from Concordia University in 2006. Since the very young age of three, she has been expressing herself through art. With a multidisciplinary background encompassing fine arts, art education and art therapy.  She has recently opened her own company called Inner Works and is actively pursuing her career as a professional artist.

  • Summit School caters to special needs children through a curriculum that offers traditional academic subjects, art education, creative arts therapies, daily life activities, vocational training and physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapies.

2006               ArtsSmarts – Artist in Residence for Cedar Street Primary School in Beloeil

  • Organized, produced and directed a project which led to the development of a traveling  art exhibition.
  • The primary objective of the project was the integration of art education throughout the whole school curriculum. 

2004-2005      Artist in Residence for the Canadian Museum of Civilization

Responsible for the project management of the pilot summer studio project for the Children’s Museum. My leadership role included the following:

  • Focusing and designing for drop-in sessions in the studio to encourage creativity and self-expression through art production.  The pilot project was based on 9 themes; clay, sculpture, contour drawing, collage light/dark/texture, construction, painting, oil resist, patterning and disguises. 
  • Preparing lesson plans for activities
  • Facilitating the active participation of museum visitors in art activities. Guiding and training animators, as well as working with the senior leadership team to test the newly proposed programs for drop-in sessions in the studio.
  • Collecting and interpreting research data to meet the needs of the museums valued clients.
  • Working directly with staff and volunteers.
  • Ensuring museum visitors standards for our selected targeted audiences (children, parents and school groups).
  • Led project to successful outcome – Participation rate doubled

2003-2005    Teachers Assistant, Art Education Department, Concordia University, Montreal

Responsible for guiding and training undergraduate students in Art Education during their teacher training hours.  My objectives were as follows:
·         Working on lesson and unit plans in collaboration with the students.
·         Evaluating students during their first and second teaching sessions.

2002-2007    Painting and Drawing instructor, Dollard Center for the Arts, Montreal

Participating as an active team member representing the children and teens programs for the Dollard Center for the Arts.  My role as a teacher entails:
·         Working with children ages 5 to 14.
·         Creating and implementing lessons plans that focus specifically on creative learning through the arts in
          painting and drawing.
·         Communicating with parents to provide positive feedback on a regular basis.
